What, exactly, do you mean, dad, when you say in such a flippant tone of voice, "of course it melts"?!?!?
I have ice cream where?!
Wide angle lenses can be such fun, can't they? I wanted to turn her into the cartoon character I saw in her expression.
This one is dedicated to `justthorne, without whom it simply would not have been possible. There was nothing used on this image during development but the high-pass filter and some blending modes. For the exact details of how to do it, you're going to have to wait until thorne is willing to reveal his mad genius skillz to the world in his upcoming book. Or, alternatively, go beg and plead with him to tell you how it's done. I'm told he likes cookies. Or beer.
Missing the full view of this one should be considered a crime against your funny bone.

As Spinal Tap would say: "This one goes to eleven."
This conjures up thoughts from childrens books I used to read, really fun and exciting!
Her hair on the top left, the bangs are the only part of this that draws away, its like the only "normal" part and it doesn't look right compared to everything else!
I'd love to learn this technique, looks like so much fun to play around with, and you got yourself a gem with this!
Yah, I see exactly what you mean about the bangs up there; they've been bugging me, too. Interesting thing about this picture is that there is absolutely zero manipulation of anything in the image other than contrast via adjustment layers and the high pass filter. Thorne's techniques for this type of stuff are just mind-boggling. I did not mask anything off, and I did not paint anything into the picture; every adjustment was to the whole image. I just haven't figured out how to do a whole image adjustment yet that will target those bangs up there. As soon as I do, you can be certain that I will post a new version of it.
The interesting part is that since there is no partial manipulation of any of the image's contents, there comes about this weird stubbornness of simply refusing to do so to change a single piece of it. I've never encountered that before with one of my pieces.
I can't explain thorne's technique here, because I swore to him that I would not divulge it to anyone else, but that I would send others to him to let him decide what he wanted to disclose about it. I must say, though, that talking with him about this type of stuff is remarkably similar to drinking from a firehose; be prepared to get soaked and thrown across the room by the strength of the flow He is so worth talking to, though.
the most interesting part is that the image was completely deconstructed into components of light, and then rebuilt in stacks on top of a 50% grey background rather than a copy of the image itself.

I am trying to visualize what was done, and it kinda makes sense, but still have no real clue what went into it, which is still cool!
